When I suggested to Billy Goat Gruff and Silk Stockings that we lunch at the newly opened Del Frisco Grille, I didn’t realize it was two things: a nationwide chain and in a crazy busy, touristy section near the Santa Monica pier.
The positive side of coming to a place swarmed with tourists is that no one is staring and judging me as I snap food photos!
In fact, the lady next to me took about 50 of her boring, old salad. I would have given her some tips if she would have spoken English.
The good news is that the food was actually good! Phew! It sure didn’t have to, since it was a stone’s throw away from one of the biggest tourist traps in LA (the pier). They could have rats chasing cockroaches out front and yet the tired, hungry travellers would step over them to get some grub.
“They’re probably just animatronic” they would think to themselves.
Silk Stockings started out with a bloody mary (she eventually had two, the lush) and seemed to enjoy the assorted pickled veggies and bacon strip on the side. She did wish there were more olives. Ungrateful so and so.
The Deviled Eggs were super tasty, those poor egg white shells were ready to burst, stuffed to the gills with delish egg filling. I guess there was truffle happening too, but I didn’t really notice.
The Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls were unique and they totally worked. Especially coated with the sweet chili sauce.
Billy Goat Gruff enjoyed his fish tacos, large portion of nicely seasoned white fish. He only eats healthy food and enjoys unncessarily showing off his toned stomach by pretending to wipe things off his face with the bottom of his shirt. Not the sleeve like normal folks.
I enjoyed the combo of the fried chicken, mini waffles and spicy maple syrup (not very spicy).
We started with the Ahi Tacos, which are great for sharing. Basically Tuna Tartare stuffed in a mini wonton taco shell. Fun!
OK, get me out of this tourist trap, I’ve had enough!
